April 2014

From the President

Did you know that one of our staff members is available 24/7 to schedule a court reporter or make a change for you?  Yes, that’s right.  You can schedule with us any time around the clock.  Just call 800-288-3376, and Dolores will be paged.  She’ll help you with scheduling if it’s after business hours, on a weekend, or even a holiday.

Our after-hours availability and Dolores’s dedication come from our sincere desire to help you any way we can.  We want to help you by making scheduling reporters as effortless as possible any time you need it done.  We tailor our availability around you, not around what’s convenient for us.

One of our clients recently wrote this: “Thank you for having the depo covered!  It was so great to be able to contact you at 8:30 p.m. last night and have you get in touch with the right people to get it covered!” L.C., Santa Monica, CA

Please call us any time.  We’re here to help!

Best regards,
Sheila Atkinson-Baker

By Betty Wells, PP*, PLS*, TSC-RE*

Doris Marie Compton, PP, PLS, lived in many different towns in the State of Arkansas, as well as in Enid, Oklahoma, and Abilene, Texas, before finally making her home in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Long before Doris knew about NALS, she was involved in the law through her dad’s profession.  He was an Arkansas State Trooper.  Her lifelong interest in the law led to a legal career after her second son was born and she was ready to return to the work force.  She knew nothing about what was required of a legal secretary so she visited the local library in Abilene, Texas, to find information on the job requirements.  Luckily for her and NALS members, Doris found the NALS Basic Manual for Legal Secretaries.  She found the book to be full of information and how-to’s and believes the information she uncovered ultimately helped her secure the position she was seeking.
