From the President
I hope you plan to attend NCRA’s 2013 Convention and Expo in Nashville next month, as it can benefit you both professionally and personally in a variety of ways.
I’d like to share a portion of the NCRA President-Elect’s Message about the conference, so you can hear firsthand how the Convention can enhance your career and growth in the industry.
“The NCRA Convention & Expo is not only the largest annual gathering of court reporters, captioners, CART providers, videographers, firm owners, freelancers, educators, and students, it is also the perfect venue for each of us to reflect on what we do as professionals and individuals, in both our work and personal lives. It is also the perfect venue for us to chart our journey as we continuously strive to improve ourselves and our profession, and ensure that what we do continues to remain a vital service throughout the many areas where we work.” Nancy Varallo, NCRA’s President-Elect, FAPR, RDR, CRR
As we continue to adhere to our standard of excellence at Atkinson-Baker, I appreciate the fact that you are a part of our team. Your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.
As always, I invite you to send us any articles or tips you may have regarding reporting, so we can share them in future issues.
Whether you are already providing realtime to all your clients or whether you are just dipping a toe into realtime feeds, you can pick up something new from talking to other reporters. That is exactly the premise of NCRA’s Taking Realtime Awareness and Innovation Nationwide (or TRAIN, as it is called).
TRAIN is a program designed to offer small-group training on a local basis, and it taps into the same spirit of sharing known among court reporters when computers, CAT, and, later on, realtime became a part of the court reporter’s services. At that time, many freelancers still worked out of an office and had the opportunity to discuss the day’s problems and offer suggestions on building skills. Read full article
How to Motivate Yourself
Staying motivated is a struggle. Our drive is constantly assaulted by negative thoughts and anxiety about the future. Everyone faces doubt and depression. What separates the highly successful is the ability to keep moving forward.
There is no simple solution for a lack of motivation. Even after beating it, the problem reappears at the first sign of failure.
The key is understanding your thoughts and how they drive your emotions. By learning how to nurture motivating thoughts, neutralize negative ones, and focus on the task at hand, you can pull yourself out of a slump before it gains momentum.

We are a couple for life. We are useless without each other and the carriers of great burden. We cannot get busy unless we are full and cannot get rest unless we are empty.
