What’s a CRR Anyway? By Sandy Bunch VanderPol, RMR, CRR, CSR
What does CRR mean? As court reporters, we all know CRR stands for Certified
Realtime Reporter – that coveted certification that allows us to shout with pride that wepossess skills such as writing realtime at speeds of 180 words per minute on literary
material for five minutes at 96% accuracy; writing conflict-free theory; writing numbers, roman, cardinal, ordinal; using flag alphabet to spell words letter by letter, and much
more. But what really does CRR mean to you as a professional? What does it mean to
you as a firm owner? What does it mean to you as a freelance reporter? What does it
mean to the courts? What does it mean to the official court reporter? I’d like to explore
each one of these questions in an attempt to perhaps encourage at least one reader of this
article to challenge him or herself to strive to this level of professionalism – obtainingyour Certified Realtime Reporter designation.

A litigant’s lawyer needs zeal
When he argues a
client’s appeal.
Court reversals are healing
For parties appealing,
But cause their opponents
to reel.

From Our Reporters“Sheila, your agency has made good on its representations to work me for whatever day and time opening I have available, and it’s been a godsend to me as a single mom in supporting my family and helping to take care of my parents who live across the street from me. My mom has dementia, but knowing that I have full-time work with you has lessened the strains I feel, especially as my parents’ needs increase
and they look to me for help and support.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to take care of my family. I’m eternally grateful to you and all your amazing staff.
“God bless you and grant you prosperity beyond your wildest dreams in 2009!”
