From the President
Hello! I hope you enjoy the articles we have put together for you in this e-newsletter.
We have been working on getting more and better jobs for you. A service we offer to the clients is a web-based video streaming service called LiveDeposition. You may be familiar with it. It is a deposition solution designed to help attorneys and their legal teams remotely participate, collaborate, and follow along with depositions, without having to download software. They receive a link and just click in.
As a reporter, when you have a LiveDeposition streaming job, contact Sevan in our IT Department for the Steno Direct Plus software download. If there is a request for a webcam, you will need a laptop with a camera. Log onto the session by clicking the link in the email that gets sent to you for the job, and click on “activate webcam.” Read more about it here.
I also encourage you to take part in some or all of these upcoming NCRA events. They can help you to improve your skills and to expand professionally.
Tips for Synchronizing Time Stamping on Transcripts with Videos
By Sheila Atkinson-Baker
Time stamping on transcripts must synchronize with the time on the video. Clients use the time stamping on the transcript to locate a particular point in the video (to see witness facial expression and other body language). They also watch the video to find a particular point in the transcript. They may want to spot a long gap of time between Q and A. When in court, they may want to quickly cue the video to a certain point to show the jury.
Also, some software has the transcripts embedded into the video. If time stamping is off, it’s not going to match up properly.
How to Build a Strong Work Ethic
There is no fatigue so wearisome as that which comes from lack of work. – Charles Spurgeon
If you’ve been stuck in a lazy rut lately, here are some suggestions to get yourself working productively.
Accept That Many Results Require Hard Work
Remind yourself of the simple causality chain from decision to action to results. That middle phase is where most of the work is.
If you have no willingness to ever work your ass off, if you have such resistance to the very notion of pushing yourself, if you have an overdeveloped sense of entitlement that all the goodness of life should flow to you with effortless ease, that’s great. You can read this article purely for entertainment purposes.
